Zinc-Air: The New Technology In Hearing Aid Batteries
Today's hearing aids are getting more and more digitally advanced every day. The technology is moving faster than the market almost. With these changes in hearing aid technology comes a requirement for the power that operates them to change as well. Today's advanced hearing aids have created a surgence of new technology for hearing aid batteries. Current hearing aid batteries provide so much more power in much smaller spaces and are different than any other hearing aid batteries or hearing aid battery systems in order to meet the needs of every hearing aid users power demands. The new technology in today's hearing aid batteries is Zinc-Air. Zinc Air is the most powerful and popular battery system for today's hearing aid batteries. These hearing aid batteries have a unique construction that enables them to use air and oxygen from outside of the battery shell. The new Zinc-Air batteries are able to pack a lot more energy than the more traditionally used silver and mercury systems. High-powered zinc is another technology that is uniquely designed to decrease the distortion of sound and enable a much longer life span in what is known as high drain applications. In some situations, this may be a better battery for you. High powered-zinc batteries are more suitable for you if: 1.) You use hearing aids that are specifically noted as a high drain or using high power, 2.) You have problems hearing in noisy places or crowd situations, 3.) Your battery life does not last as long as you would like it to, and 4.) You are not always achieving clear sound results on your hearing aid.
Zinc-Air hearing aid batteries come with a special sticker tab on the back of the battery. This is because the zinc-air hearing aid batteries require air for power. When the sticker is removed, the battery becomes exposed to oxygen and gets activated. The battery must then be put in the hearing aid immediately. The factory produced tab will seal the air holes inside the battery and will ensure the battery remains fresh until you are ready to use it. When you want to use the battery, you just need to remove the tab in order to activate the hearing aid battery. After removing the sticker, you need to wait about one minute before you put the battery into your hearing aid. Do not wait too long. One minute will allow for ample time for oxygen to get into the battery and active its cells. If you intend to take the battery out to conserve its life, ensure that you put the sticker back on the battery when it is not in use. Another important thing to keep in mind when maintaining your hearing aid batteries, is that they should not be stored in a cool or cold place like a refrigerator. This will effectively destroy the batteries as the cold air will form water underneath the tab sticker. When water gets in, oxygen will come in contact with the battery and activate it. By the time you go to use it, the battery will be fully discharged and essentially useless to you. If you have any other questions about zinc-air hearing aid batteries, consult the manufacturer of your hearing aid or your hearing professional. |
